Instructional "Musts" going forward

Here is a list of items from our conversations that make for excellent instruction.  We will base our lesson design around these topics:

Instructional musts

Emphasis AWAY from whole class instruction and dicusions to pairs (turn and talk, etc.), small groups, and station work

Gradual release with (usually) smaller texts with every skill, every unit

Treating intervention strategies (Clear directions on assignments, chunking reading, progression of ideas, graphic organizers, modeling, appropriate reading levels) as best practice for all classes, and using Colleen, Mike and others as a resource.

Formative assessment that is something we do daily- rarely tied to scoring guides- that affects our daily instruction
·         Exit slips
·         Fist to five (verbal check in)
·         Check these out!  I challenge you to use one of these before vacation! I think I’ll try “Muddiest Point” today

what would you add?
